Thread Product for Stringing Beads

These are the thread products we carry for stringing pearl and bead stringing.

There are several relatively new high-tech braided threads on the market today. We offer Power Pro and Tough Thread. Their break strength is the highest of any of our stringing materials based on their diameter (yes, stronger even than nylon-coated stranded wire, which is made of steel). It can be used in place of silk or nylon thread or stranded wire, although you may not want to use it with crystals, since they could eventually cut through it. We recommend finishing the ends with clamshell bead tips with a dot of glue on the knot.

We also carry Polyamid thread by Griffin, which is an extremely strong, nylon-like thread with a beautiful gloss and good color brilliance. It is stronger than "natural silk" and more robust. Under tension it stretches by 25% but returns to its original dimensions when released. It's great for knotting between beads.

Upon updating the website, we separated some items that were previously categorized together. If you were looking for Rattail or Polyester Cord or Stretchable Bead Cord, they are located on their own pages.
Beading Tip - Creative Coloring
When using light colored thread materials like Power Pro, the white color sometimes appears where you don't want it to, such as near the clasp or where you've tied off a strand (on a multi-strand piece). To hide the white color, use a permanent marker to color the thread. Permanent markers (like Sharpies) come in a wide range of colors so you can usually find one in an appropriate color to match your beads.
Thread Size Comparisons
To assist you in comparing sizes between different thread products, we've come up with this table that gives some basic data about typical sizes. Please note that all diameters and size designations are approximate.
Diameter

Griffin Size Nymo Size *
0.200.008B (single strand)

* Note for Nymo sizing: Nymo is usually used doubled, so the resulting
thickness is approximately twice the single strand measurement.
