We include this tip in several places on our site because it can really cause problems for novices. Open a jump ring by grasping the ring on each side and gently twisting one side toward you and one side away from you. If you pull it apart (making more of an E shape than a C shape), it loses some of its structural integrity and can't be properly closed.
