Making your own headpins & eyepins

If you're in the middle of a project and suddenly discover you've run out of headpins or eyepins, you might be able to make your own.

All you need is some 24 or 22 gauge wire (we recommend half hard or full hard) and round nose and chain nose pliers.

* To make an eyepin, all you need to do is cut a length of wire at least 1/4" longer than you want the finished eyepin to be, then make a standard loop in one end.
* To make a headpin, cut a piece of wire at least 1/4" longer than you want the finished headpin to be. Using your round nose pliers, make the tiniest loop you can in one end. Carefully smash the loop down with the chain nose pliers so that you don't twist the loop.

While making your own eyepins and headpins isn't all that hard, it's definitely more time consuming than using ready-made findings. Since headpins and eyepins are usually quite affordable, you'll probably only want to make your own if you happen to run out of what you need.
