Matte beads have a duller, frosted looking finish, as opposed to a shiny surface.

The resulting colors are rich and full, but these beads do not really stand out when paired with beads with a shiny finish. Most people use matte beads as a base for a necklace or they use only matte beads to create the look they want. You can matte your own beads at home by using an etching compound.
