Magnetic Clasp Converter Tutorial
The picture above shows the converter attached to the a finished necklace
For an magnetic clasp converter similar to this one, you will need:
- Sterling Silver Magnetic Clasp
- 6mm Open Jump Ring, 18ga
- A simple Sterling Silver Clasp. We used a Sterling Silver 6mm Spring Ring, which is the cheapest thing to use when making this project, but you may choose any clasp you like.
*For alternate color options see the notes section below*
Tools you will need:
- One or two pairs of Needle Nosed (non-serrated) Pliers for
opening and closing the jump rings.
Simple Instructions:
How to make the magnetic clasp converter:
- Open your jump ring (see notes below for more information) and attach it to one side of the magnetic clasp.
- Open the loop on the bottom of the spring ring and attach it to the other side of the magnetic clasp.
How to use it:
- Attach the clasp on the necklace you are using to the jump ring side.
- Then attach the spring ring to the ring on the necklace and you're done!
Notes:
- Jump rings work best if you open them from side to side. Don't open them by making the diameter
larger - that will just deform the shape of the ring and make it hard to get the ends butted up against each
other.
- What if you necklace isn't sterling silver? Well we have the parts in copper too! Copper Magnetic Clasp, Copper Open Jump Ring, Copper Clasp.
- Using silver plated parts are great to use if you want to make this project less expensive. Silver Plated Magnetic Clasp, Silver Plated Open Jump Ring, Silver Plated Clasp.
- Also if you have a bracelet that is too short this is a good way to make it a little longer and make it be easier to put on.
- This clasp converter does make the piece you put it on about an inch longer
