Brass
& Pastels
by Morgan Newberg
Materials:
Tools:
Instructions:
- View the illustration
below. Cut 2 pieces (roughly the same size) of 22ga brass wire greater
than 1.5".
- Shape the wire around
your mandrel leaving a tail at each end. Should resemble illustration
#2. When you've shaped it sufficiently, shape your other piece of wire
similarly.
- Trim the portion that
will go through your ear. Use the wire rounding tool to smooth out any
metal burrs.
- I used 2 pairs of
round-nosed pliers to shape the decorative portion of the earwire. If
you would like to finish them with a simple loop, this is a easy
alternative to the "swirl".
- To make the brass hoops
use the 18ga wire, & see our Unconventional
Hoop tutorial.
- Cut your 3" length of
chain in half.
- Starting with at the
bottom and using a headpin, attach an amethyst rondelle to the end of
the chain, count up a couple of links and attach a tanzanite rondelle,
repeat until there are 4 amethyst rondelles and 3 tanzanite rondelles
on the length of chain. Repeat with the other piece of chain.
- Using a jumpring, attach
the hoop, end of the chain, and earwire together. Repeat for the other
side.
*If you're unsure of how to wire
wrap "Beginning
Wire Wrapping" is a simple to use tool.
**If you need some basic jewelry making skills, the "Basics
of Bead Stringing" is an excellent place to start.
